Biography

Junior Mother Hilda C. Powell, the daughter of Reverend Fannie C. Milbry was raised by her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Booker T. Cotton.  The only girl out of seven children, she is a native of Elizabethtown, North Carolina. She is married to her high school sweetheart Elder Lester Powell, Jr., the Ruling Elder of the South Central District and is the proud parent of one son Deacon Markell L. Powell.

She began her spiritual journey at the Greater Saint James Fire Baptized Holiness Church, Elizabethtown, North Carolina and is currently the First Lady of Greater Mt. Zion Fire Baptized Church in Charlotte, North Carolina.

She was educated in the Bladen County school system and graduated from Bladen Central High School in Elizabethtown, North Carolina and continued her education at North Carolina Central University in Durham, North Carolina where she received her Bachelor of Arts and Masters of Arts degrees in Early Childhood Education. After teaching for over thirty-three years in the state of North Carolina, she retired as an educator. However, she continues to volunteer and work as a substitute teacher in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School System.

In this grand ole Fire Baptized Holiness Church, Mother Powell has served as a Sunday School teacher, Bible Study teacher, on the Senior Missionary Board, and a volunteer wherever she is needed.

Mother Powell has served as District Directress of Religious Education on the Eastern North Carolina District and the South Central North Carolina District in addition to heading up the Scholarship Committee for the district. Currently, Mother Powell serves as District Missionary President of the California District.

In the 33rd Quadrennial 2022 General Council of the Fire Baptized Holiness Church, Mother Powell was appointed National Junior Mother of the Second Episcopal Diocese.

Mother Powell is so thankful and grateful for the people the Lord has placed in her life to lead, guide and direct her throughout life.

Mother Powell encourages all to “Remember to always put Christ first in what you are pursuing in life.” And to follow the  words of David as found in Psalm 121:1-2 

I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills from whence cometh my help.  My help cometh from the Lord which made heaven and earth.
